Salary: £19,400 - £21,100 per annum / £11.72 - £12.78 per hour
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 Hours per week, Term Time Only

Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in a Specialist Education School, you will work with secondary school-aged children (11-19) who have complex Autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and behaviours that can challenge. Your role will involve:

  • Providing tailored support to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Assisting with classroom management and helping to create a positive learning environment.
  • Supporting students with personal care and daily activities as required.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other professionals to deliver effective education plans.
  • Adapting teaching methods and resources to suit each student’s needs.


Criteria for Success:
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with SEN in either an employed or voluntary capacity.
  • A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support Work for Teaching and Learning in Schools is desirable.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Level 2/C or equivalent.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience with pupils who have SEN, SEMH, or ASD.
  • Ability to adapt to various situations and be creative in meeting pupils' needs.
  • Commitment to putting the child first and treating them as an individual.
  • Capability to follow educational plans and work effectively with a range of professionals.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and applicants must declare all convictions and cautions, including those which are “spent,” unless protected under DBS filtering rules.
