Role Overview:

As an SEN Teacher, you will be working with children aged 11-19 who have learning disabilities typically linked to Autism (ASD). You will lead small class sizes, supported by a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants and an excellent Therapy Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans.
  • Adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Utilize strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.
  • Manage a range of approaches to learning, including support for students with anxiety.
  • Collaborate with the Therapy Team to support student development.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection.

Candidate Criteria:
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven track record of achieving outstanding outcomes
  • Thorough knowledge of the curriculum and adaptation for SEN pupils
  • Experience working with young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain nurturing relationships with young people
  • Experience managing a range of learning approaches, including support for students with anxiety
  • Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners
  • Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability in teaching to meet individual needs

Additional Information:
Successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, allowing the employer to request disclosure of all convictions and cautions, including those that are spent, unless protected under the DBS filtering rules.
