About the Role:

We are excited to partner with one of the leading providers of specialist education in the country to recruit an inspirational and dedicated Headteacher for a brand new Specialist Education School opening in Derby next year. This school will cater primarily to students with Autism and ADHD, spanning both primary and secondary school ages.

The successful candidate will start well ahead of the school's opening, to be pivotal in the planning, creation, registration, and running of this innovative educational environment. As Headteacher, you will play a crucial role in shaping the school's vision and ethos, developing a bespoke curriculum, and assembling a dynamic team of educators to achieve an Ofsted outstanding rating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • School Planning and Development: Lead the strategic planning and development process for the new school, ensuring all necessary preparations for a successful opening.
  • Curriculum Design: Develop and implement a comprehensive and inclusive curriculum tailored to meet the needs of students with Autism and ADHD.
  • Team Building: Recruit, train, and manage a dedicated team of teachers and support staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.
  • School Registration: Oversee the school's registration process, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Operational Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the school, including budgeting, resource allocation, and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Student Welfare: Promote the well-being and academic progress of all students, implementing effective safeguarding and inclusion policies.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community to support the school’s objectives and enhance student outcomes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead the school towards achieving an Ofsted outstanding rating through continuous evaluation and improvement of school practices and policies.

Criteria

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a specialist education setting.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of students with Autism and ADHD.
  • Excellent strategic planning and organisational skills.
  • A track record of successful curriculum development and team leadership.
  • Commitment to achieving the highest standards of education and student welfare.
