We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to join a leading provider of Specialist Education Schools for Children & Young Adults with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities. As the Recruitment Partner, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Headteacher Pastoral for a fixed-term contract starting in September 2024.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Behaviour and Attitudes: Ensure behaviour and attitudes meet OFSTED standards, evidencing that they are consistently at least “Good”. Effectively communicate this evidence base.
  • Visibility and Quality: Maintain a highly visible presence to ensure consistently high-quality pastoral care and behaviour management daily.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Oversee whole school safeguarding, ensuring KCSIE is consistently applied, and staff are fully trained in identifying, recording, and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • Line Management: Manage the Safeguarding and Pastoral leads.
  • Safeguarding Oversight: Supervise MyConcern and related actions, including working with external agencies such as Early Help, ChIN/CP meetings, and multi-agency meetings.
  • Data Utilization: Use ENGAGE data to identify and prioritize pastoral team actions, monitor their positive impact, and implement restorative practices, behaviour intervention plans, and staff coaching.
  • Attendance Management: Lead or delegate safeguarding lead to ensure proper application of attendance policies and procedures.
  • Parental Involvement: Ensure effective actions are taken to improve attendance for identified students and monitor the impact.
  • Rewards System Oversight: Manage the implementation and impact of the rewards system through the pastoral lead.

Duties will vary, and you must be prepared to adapt and assist wherever needed.

Essential Criteria:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience as a senior leader in the SEMH sector.
  • OFSTED Expertise: Demonstrated experience with SLT and the Behaviour & Attitudes element of OFSTED inspections.
  • Safeguarding Leadership: Qualified DSL with whole school responsibility.
  • Pastoral Management: Recent experience in pastoral line management.
  • MIS Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of ENGAGE, MyConcern, or similar MIS systems.
  • Attendance Improvement: Successful track record of improving whole school attendance.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with multiple agencies.

Successful applicants will undergo pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and the employer is permitted to ask applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those "spent" unless protected under DBS filtering rules) to assess suitability for working with children.
